| You may think that just because you are using a product labeled as a conditioner your are conditioning your hair. Well, I'm here to tell you that this is NOT true. Most conditioners are marketed as conditioners, yet they are merely detanglers. They make your hair feel soft and manageable because of the many "cones" they have that allow the product to make your hair slippery, thus making it easier to detangle. Conditioning your hair is essential because it gives it strength, which leads to less breakage. When purchasing a conditioner, you should make sure that the label either reads, deep conditioner, mask; or the instructions direct you to leave it on for 15 minutes or more or if the conditioner is heat activated. It takes approximately 15 minutes and some level of warmth for the outer cuticle of your hair to open, thereby allowing the proteins and vitamins of the conditioner to be deposited into the hair. This is why it is suggested you utilize a process cap or shower cap to activate the conditioner. |
